WHAT IS AN IDIOM?
An IDIOM is a figurative expression where the overall meaning is completely different from the literal meaning of its individual words. You cannot figure out an idiom by simply looking up each word’s definition in a dictionary. They are fixed phrases that fluent speakers understand by convention and culture.
